I will be selling Macs at the NUS Matriculation Fair from this friday, 25th July till 31st July, at the Multi-Purpose Sports Hall from 9 am till 5pm. Those of you entering NUS soon do look for me if you have any questions regarding Macs or if you want to purchase a MacBook/Air/Pro for your Uni life.
I’ll be easy to spot. I’ll be wearing white/blue hair color during that week.
Twitter me for details on the prices if you want to know.
The fair will end on the 31st1st, followed by another month of sales in Yusok Ishak House from the 4th, which I will be in charge of as well.
Edit: For those of you who came in here looking for information for the NUS Matriculation Fair 2009, read in these following posts, why I quit the sales after the first day;
Apple, at Q3 financial earnings report yesterday, announced that another 20 countries will be getting the iPhone on August 22nd.
This coincides with early rumors reported by MacRyu that the iPhone will come to Singapore in August, instead of the widely reported September release date.
Singtel has yet to release any news, but we will report as soon as we get more news.
Updates:
Apple has changed the SG Apple site’s iPhone page from a “coming soon” status to a “how to get ready” page that was similarly shown on the first 22 countries before their launch this month. Coupled with the recent announcement that the iPhone will debut in another 20 countries by 22nd August, this looks like the confirmation that we are getting.

PS: We also do have reports we received from an old source who said that they are now setting the exact date at Singtel and the official confirmation should come soon.
Update: Reuters has put out news that Singtel is indeed putting out the iPhone in Singapore in August. This goes to show that the news you get from blogs such as MacRyu are way way way way way more accurate than crap put out by the so-called “mass media” such as Digital Life and Mediacorp News.
This is definitely a big win for new media in Singapore.
Cult of Mac has an interview with Satoshi Nakajima, the lead architect for Windows 95, who had converted to being a Mac user since two years’ ago vowing never to use a PC again.
Nakajima is also the President of Big Canvas, a company dedicated to developing for Apple’s iPhone platform.
You can read the whole story here.
More proxy reporting here. Engadget has flown all the way down to Auckland to interview the first ten people in line to buy the iPhone.
Which by now they would have already been iPhone owners.
The site’s here.
True to their promise, the guys ifixit, being 4th in line in the world to buy the iPhone 3G, have already done so and have posted the disassembly photos on their website.
Enjoy!!!
So Microsoft decided to “stay up and fight” Apple’s “Get a Mac” advertisements by launching a Anti-Apple advertisement of their own. I wonder how that will work out, and what they will be touting as great on Vista.
I am thus offering my own ten reasons why Vista is “great”, maybe they can draw inspiration from my reasons~
Hahz.
Here goes.
1. Vista is great because you can run it on any hardware, except anything that is more than a month old from being the latest technology.
2. Vista is the most secured OS in the world, if you only count the different versions of Windows as the only OSes in the world
3. Vista is great because it’s not compatible with most existing programs! So a lesser chance of being hit by an existing program that is actually a virus.
4. Vista is great because it stimulates the economy – by making everyone who owns a computer buy lots and lots and lots of new hardware just to run Vista, the operating system, on its own.
5. Vista is great because it creates fun – by being the sole inspiration of a shitload of tech jokes about itself.
6. Vista is great because it has new and great features – that are copied from Mac OS X Tiger, as stated, proven, and sworn by Vista’s creator, Jim Alchin.
7. Vista is great because it shows people the value of Windows XP – that XP was way way way faster, stable, and better than Vista.
8. Vista is great because it is truly the consumers’ Windows – because businesses refused to upgrade to Vista.
9. Vista is great because we have the biggest software library in the world – inspiring the worst interfaces, program functions and malware you can ever find in this world.
10. Vista is great because it’s Windows!!! “We have forced you to use Windows your whole life. You have to obey us, Microsoft, your OS Overlord. Without us you have no job. Without us you won’t even have a decent word processing program in your computer. Without us you are nothing! Upgrade to Vista, NOW!!!
I am sure almost everyone with a .Mac account has already received the news – MobileMe will be launched in between 8pm-2am July 9th/July 10th Pacific Time, which makes it 11am to 5pm July 10th in Singapore.
In Apple’s own words,
“MobileMe Launch
7/9/2008, 6pm-12am PT
As part of the MobileMe launch, www.mac.com will be taken offline at 6pm PT on Wednesday, July 9th.
Members will be unable to access www.mac.com or any .Mac services during this time with the exception of .Mac Mail accessed via a desktop application, iPhone, or iPod touch.
MobileMe will be available as soon as possible during this maintenance window.”
So damn excited.
One thing though – I really hope the service quality improves with mobileme. It is no use having pretty and extremely functional webapps when the service is dog slow. For example, the connection time-outs I am getting with iDisk 99% of the time has to go.
Using the fact that Optus is Singtel-owned, the pricing that Optus released for the Australian iPhone today is extremely interesting, and gives deep insights on what the possible pricing for the iPhone in Singapore will be. It is also highly possible that the plans offered in Australia under Optus will be similar to the plans offered in Singapore eventually.
There are both pre-paid and post-paid plans for the iPhone, and for the pre-paid plans, the iPhone is priced at 729 Australian dollars(about 960 Singapore dollars) for the 8GB model and at 849 Australian dollars (about 1110 Singapore dollars) for the 16GB model respectively.
The pricing sounds extremely outrageous compared to the pricing offered by carriers in other countries such as the U.K. and the United States.
However, the site itself is relatively confusing as it is not clear if customers opting for a contract-based plan will be getting the phone at cheaper rates. If the rumors that Singapore will be only getting the unsubsidized iPhone 3G are true, I am going to be one furious Singtel boycotter.
Singtel is still going to win big time though, but I foresee a big market of grey imports as soon as Singtel announces a ridiculous pricing.
