What to do if your Mac is hit by the Apple Silent Ethernet Killer Update aka “031-51913 Incompatible Kernel Extension Configuration Data 3.28.1” [Updated]

“If you have access to a system that wasn’t updated with Ethernet Killer:

Go to System/Library/Extensions/AppleKextExcludeList.kext and copy the working file extension and transfer the file over to your corrupted computer or partition

Turn off System Integrity Protection (SIP) by restarting in recovery mode (command-R) and go under Utility in the top menu and open Terminal app.

Type in “csrutil disable” and return.

Restart computer and you now with be able to delete the bad
AppleKextExcludeList.kext and drop in the good AppleKextExcludeList.kext

Restart and Ethernet will be recognized again.

Turn the SIP back on by doing step 2 and 3 again but type in “csrutil enable”

iFixit tears down the Apple Pencil →

What is this—a logic board for ants? Not quite, but weighing in at a whopping 1.0 gram it’s definitely the smallest we’ve ever seen.

This thing has a freaking logic board (with 4 chips on it) inside! Mind blown.

The pencil is clearly not meant to be opened or repaired; you can’t get inside without destroying the device.

Duh. What else did they expect?

While the teardown’s informative and stuff, there is one less Apple Pencil in the world for someone who really wants one urgently. Maybe they could have waited until stock levels become normal.

ExFAT 2: Who pays $1500 for an iPad???

Just when you thought we are gone for good, Daniel and I return for the second episode of ExFAT.

We ranted and ranted about the Surface Pro, as well as covered the Nexus phones, the Apple TV (a little bit), and of course the iPad Pro. And Daniel talks about his iPhone repair.

This time round, we kept most of the show in Singlish, since quite a number of people complained about the last show which was mostly in Chinese.

White Marble Snap Case for iPhone 6s+ (made by fabrix)

White Marble Case. Made by fabrix.

A photo posted by Ren Jinshen Ryu (@ryuworks) on

made by fabrix sent me one of their White Marble Snap Cases to try out, and like many of their other products, the Marble Snap Case for iPhone 6s+ (their naming) is a sleek, well-made snap-on plastic case with a white marble (there is also a black marble version available) look.

It doesn’t increase the heft of the iPhone 6s Plus by too much (unlike Spigen’s Ultra Hybrid, which I cannot really recommend) making the phablet 6s Plus still feel comfortable while holding it in one hand.

The White and Black Marble Snap Case is retailing for 22 USD at madebyfabrix.com.

The Singapore Apple Store’s location is finally confirmed

After a number of years of showing interest in opening an official Apple Store in Orchard Road, it is finally happening.

The Pure Group, owners of the Pure Fitness gym at Knightsbridge (also known as the Grand Park Orchard Hotel building, where the local Abercrombie & Fitch store is located), announced via an email to its members that;

…we, along with other tenants of the building, will be handling back space to the landlord to make way for the opening of Singapore’s first Apple Store later in 2016.

Obviously they leaked this because they are pissed that the landlord is forcing them out to make way for Apple.

Seriously, ANY LANDLORD will give the utmost priority for an Apple Store, so suck it, Pure Fitness.

Nevertheless, it is finally good to get some closure to the whole “Apple Store in Singapore” thing that had been going on since 2012.

iPhone 6s and 6s Plus headphone ports suffer from possible electrical noise interference

Well-known Youtuber and Headfier lachlanlikesathing discovers that the iPhone 6s and the 6s Plus suffers from bad design (likely from the additional of the taptic engine and the new pressure-sensing display unit) where the isolation of the headphone port from electrical noise is less than ideal – sensitive IEMs and headphones pick up audible buzzing during normal operation of the phones.

Below are the videos he has posted regarding the issue, and here is the thread on Head-fi discussing the issue.

ExFAT 1: Where is my Pink iPhone 6s Plus?

Daniel and I talk about tomorrow’s iPhone 6s launch, which model I am getting, as well as the new iPads. Dialogue mostly in chinese.
